Arizona is known for three things; the Grand Canyon, dry desert air, and off-road trails. If you're looking to take your Jeep or 4×4 off road for a dusty joy ride Arizona may be your dream destination.
The state of Arizona has more than 75 off-road trails that crisscross the Mojave, Sonoran, and Yuma deserts. The off-highway vehicle trails range in difficulty levels from easy to moderate to difficult.
If you're a beginner off-roader in the North Phoenix area looking to get some first-hand trail experience you may want to check out the Bradshaw Mountains, Four Peaks, or Sycamore Creek trails. All three are rated as "Easy" by azoffroading.com and can accommodate a Jeep or SUV. The Bulldog Canyon trail may prove to be too much for your SUV as ATVs and dirt bikes are more appropriate modes of transport.
Beginners and novices in the Tucson area may want to stick to the Mt. Lemmon and Patagonia Mountain trails. Both are rated as "Easy" and should be a worthwhile challenge to your SUV.
More experienced off-road drivers in Phoenix should head out to Reno Pass or Desoto Mine. The trails are considered to be "Difficult" and may be too much for standard SUVs.
If you're planning a trip to the Grand Canyon and hope to do some off-roading as part of your visit you'll find plenty of trail options for all skill levels. The Fire Point, Grandview Lookout, Point Sublime, and Saddle Mountain Road trails can accommodate Jeeps and SUVs as well as dirt bikes and ATVs.
